Start-up of four new medium-frequency melting furnaces 4×20 tons and 10 tons pouring heated furnace at NLZ, Nizhny Novgorod
The project started on 24.08.2021
In August 2021, Nizhny Novgorod Foundry, LLC (NLZ LLC, part of GAZ Group, Nizhny Novgorod) took in operation four melting induction furnaces with the capacity of 20,000 kg each, with two inverters of 12,000 kW and one pouring heated furnace.
Each pair of furnaces is equipped with a DUOMELT power distribution system, which enables two furnaces operate from a single thyristor medium frequency converter. This is convenient both for melting mode operation on one furnace and for holding and pouring mode on the other one. This construstion suggests the full usage of all available power of the medium frequency converter.
The melting complex has a function of automatic sintering and melting, an adjustment of a furnace tilting angle to display accurately the weight of the furnace content during the draining of the alloy. Also the complex has position sensors for an exhaust hood, which opens in two directions and allows to adjust the performance of the dust removal and purification system.
The alloy from the furnaces is transferred to a bucket tilting machine and to a heated channel pouring furnace with a useful quantity of 10,000 kg and a power of 350 kW, additionally equipped with a modifiers dosing device.
